Ipswich offers a wonderful blend of the old and the new. Stunning architecture spanning over 800 years of the towns history still line the streets. Much of the town is pedestrianised so shopping and browsing can be enjoyed in a traffic free environment. Ipswich is second to none in the region for fine dining – from international cuisine to small, friendly tea rooms, both in the historic town centre and on the town’s beautiful waterfront area.
There are great attractions for FICC members to enjoy and friendly, professional staff from Ipswich’s award winning Tourist Information Centre will have a stand at the rally to welcome and help FICC members:
Guided Walks.
Over 1500 hundred years of history can be enjoyed on a guided walk with Ipswich’s Blue Badge Tourist Guides. Extra walks have been arranged especially to take place during FICC Rally every day from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August commencing at 11.00am. Information and priority booking for FICC members will be available at the information stand at Trinity Park and the cost is just £3.00 per person.
Orwell River Cruises.
Cruise the beautiful River Orwell aboard the Orwell Lady. Cruises leave Ipswich’s stunning waterfront and go as far as the river mouth and busy ports of Felixstowe and Harwich, and include areas of outstanding beauty, wildlife, and pretty, historic hamlets such as Pin Mill. There is an informative commentary on board, a bar, and light refreshments. Information and bookings will be available at the information stand at Trinity Park.
Open Top Bus Tour
Regular Open Top Bus Tours of Ipswich and the surrounding areas – including crossing the Orwell Bridge with its’ breath taking views and an informative commentary – will be taking place during the rally. Information and tickets will be available at the information stand at Trinity Park.
Christchurch Mansion
“Christchurch Mansion is a “must see”. A fine Tudor house in the Centre of Ipswich in beautiful parkland. The house is truly a national treasure and famous for it’s collection of paintings by Constable and Gainsborough and is open to the public daily, free of charge. There is a tea room. Open Daily
Ipswich Museum
The museum traces the town’s history back to Saxon times. New Exhibitions include “Ipswich At War” and “The Ipswich Story”. Entry is free of charge. Open Tuesday – Saturday inclusive.
Ipswich Transport Museum.
Less than 5 minutes drive from Trinity Park, Ipswich Transport Museum is another gem. Housed in the Old Trolleybus Depot and featuring the best collection of major transport exhibits all to have been built, owned, or operated in one area. There is a tea room.
